Verifying Antivirus & Spyware Software Is Up To Date
- Click Start, and then click Run...
- Type wscui.cpl and then press ENTER. Windows Security Centre opens and displays the status of your malware or virus protection.
- If there is a problem with your malware or virus protection, Windows Security Centre might include an option to update a particular program. If this option is available, click Update now.
Notes
If Windows Security Centre does not recognize your malware-protection programs or if it does not give you a way to update them, you must update the programs yourself.
Windows System File Check Tool
To determine whether the issue that you are experiencing is caused by one or more system files that are used by Windows Vista, run the System File Checker tool. The System File Checker tool scans system files and replaces incorrect versions of the system files by using the correct versions.
- Click Start, and then click Run...
- Type sfc /scannow and then press ENTER. Windows Security Centre opens and displays the status of your malware or virus protection.
Notes
When the scan is complete, test to see whether the issue that you are experiencing is resolved. If the issue that you are experiencing is not resolved, use the procedure that is described in the "The System Restore" section.
